Build your own AIOS. Here are the files to start.
Free, copy-paste files for an AI operating system you actually own.
Everything on this page is plain Markdown. No login, no app to get locked into. Download a file, drop it in a folder, open it in any editor or in Obsidian, and your AI reads it next session. I run my whole week on this setup. These are the same building blocks, stripped of my private data and handed to you as starters.
Start with the constitution. That is the file everything else obeys. If you only take one thing today, take that.
What an AIOS actually is
An AI operating system is five layers you build in order. Constitution, second brain, skills, tools, and the weekly loop that ties them together. One page, one paragraph per layer.
New to the idea? Start with What a second brain actually is.
Sample constitution file (annotated)
A real constitution.md you can copy today: who you are, your priorities, your boundaries, and how the AI should behave. Annotated so you see why each section exists, with a stripped blank version next to it.
Why this file comes first: The constitution is the first file.
Sample skills file (one working skill)
A skill is a named command your AI knows how to run. This is one complete, working skill — a weekly review — with the trigger, the steps, and notes on when the model invokes it. A second skeleton file lets you fork your own.
Format follows the Claude Code skills pattern.
Second brain starter vault
An empty plain-files vault, pre-structured. PARA folders, a CONTEXT entry-file pattern, and a memory.md template for the things your AI should remember about you. Opens in Obsidian or any editor.
Tools & MCP directory
MCP is how your AI reaches the outside: your files, your calendar, the web, your repos. A curated directory of the servers a non-developer would actually want, not a dump of 49,000 entries. Hand-picked first.
The weekly loop template
The habit that makes an AIOS compound instead of rot. A fill-in weekly review: what happened, what got decided, what is next, what the AI should remember. Comes with the exact prompt to hand it your week's notes.
AIOS setup checklist (one evening)
A linear checklist from nothing to a working setup in a single sitting. Pick a model and client, create the vault, drop in the constitution, add one skill, connect one tool, run one loop.
Recommended reading & watching
Short and opinionated, not a link dump. The second-brain foundations, the MCP docs, the official model docs, and a couple of things worth your time. Ten entries, each with a one-line 'read this if'.
The few outside pages I'd actually send you to. The official MCP sources for the long tail, so the maintenance is someone else's problem.
